SUMMARY:IN PURSUIT OF COLOUR: THE ART OF PATRICK HERON
DESCRIPTION:Patrick Heron was one of the major artists associated with the St Ives Group and also an important art critic. His work is joyful, colourful and explores the space creating potential of colour and line. He was a pioneering abstract artist, anticipating some of the developments towards post-painterly abstraction in the UK before it emerged in the USA. His early work is strongly influenced by modernist French artists such as Cézanne, Braque and Matisse. In his early exploration of abstraction, he is influenced initially by his contemporaries in France such as Nicolas de Staël and Pierre Soulages and later by Abstract Expressionism.\nLecturer: Colin Pink: Colin has a BA in Philosophy and Politics from the University of Southampton and a MA in the History of Art from Birkbeck, University of London. He specialises in the interrelationship between the history of ideas and the history of art and has lectured on aspects of modern art at a wide range of cultural organisations: Putney School of Art and Design; the Temenos Academy; APT Studios; Maskall’s Gallery and the Museum of Futures, Surbiton\nImage source: Wikipedia – Estate of Patrick Heron allowed image to be used for Wikipedia\n
